We rent an apartment at a big complex and each unit gets a carport. If you can picture it, it's just one large, covered structure with two 4'x4' wood poles separating each port. Coming home, one of us turned into the carport but the turn was a little too short and the car struck one of the poles. Fortunately it did not damage the carport, but the estimate for supplies and labor for a new pole to be cemented and installed was between $300 and $400. They don't care if we pay it out of pocket or file with our insurer, as long as they get their money. I am finding this tricky. It's a little more than I want to pay out of pocket knowing I have liabillity insurance but at the same time I am concerned about the effects on our insurance rates if a claim is files. We both have several years safe driving records. Any thoughts?

We live ouside of Canada, but own property with a cabin on it. My dad and aunt own it. According to the insurance if one of the owners (ppl on the insurance) are not on the property (say, 500 miles away) if something happens (like someone falls breaks there leg) to someone we take there, we are not covered and could sue us. I want to get life insurance, but I am not sure whhich type of insurance I should get. I have done lots of research and majority of the research tells me to get term life insurance, but I am still confused to why. Here is a little about me: 30 years old, married, and have a baby. Non-smoker, and overall healthy, minus some arthritis. My first thought is to get whole life insurance because it definitely covers my family if I pass away when I am a lot older. However, I then hear that whole life is not a great investment - too expensive and lot of cost/fees involved, you don't really know how much of your premiums are going into your insurance and how much is going into the savings where the company invest the money. After hearing that, I think well term isn't so bad then. I get a lower premium for the same amount of life insurance. But then, I know term insurance only last a limited time. I see 30 years usually being the longest term life insurance. Well 30 years from now (considering nothing happens to me in the next 30 years), I will only be 60. That is still pretty young and then I wil have to renew my term insurance, but at 60, my premium will be a lot more than it would be right now. SO as you can see, I am at a lost and have no clue what to do. I would like some opinions, feedback, suggestions, etc, that would be much appreciated. (side note- when explaining which insurance is better, please explain in simple terms. I posted awhile back and I had some responses with very advanced insurance explanations that confused me! lol). ;) Oh, I do have life insurance with my company, but it's not much and I don't see mysefl staying with this company, so I prefer getting my own private life insurance.

A $26,000 car got stolen with no insurance, what can I do?

I financed a car through nissan around Nov. 1st, at payments of 436.29 I financed 26,000. I'm 19 years old, my mother co signed for me. to start building my credit. (a month after) I posted online looking for a third party to do a credit application and take over the payments. I found someone, we went through the paper work etc, and i was stupid/naive enough to let him hold onto the car before seeing if he was approved, to see if he likes it etc, long story short, he never came back with my car, changed his phone and gave me a phony address. My car was stolen. I drove off the lot at nissan without any insurance on it yet, because they let me. (again im new at this and so naive) i was waiting on good quotes on insurance , then my car got stolen before i could get insurance on it. I owe 800 dollars now, and my account is going into collections in 3 days. whats going to happen? My father has homeowners insurance that covers the exterior buildings around his house, like a garden shed/ covered carport. this past weekend, a large snowfall provided too much weight for one building, and it collapsed. inside was a lawn mower and an antique automobile that dad has had since he was my age, and it was damaged by a metal beam. (think hot dog bun). the insurance company is now saying that they will pay for the repair of the building and for a new lawnmower, but not the car itself. it was not fully restored, but it was in fair working condition (meaning the engine works and the auto does move). does exterior building coverage also include everything inside, or does it have a limit? is the insurance company trying to weasel out of paying my father? if so, who should I call? They trust me more than each other or any of their other children, because they know that I don't care about money for myself. I believe my parents have life insurance policies on themselves, but with the way they manage their finances the policies may very well have lapsed. I would like to open policies on both of them myself. I would like to get coverage for not only death but any life-threatening incidents so I can pick up the slack for them if their coverage is insufficient or doesn't kick in. I already have a policy on myself for $500,000, and I pay only $30/month. I'm sure that it'll be much more expensive for my parents, but this responsibility falls to me. My father is in poor health and probably won't make it another 5 years. When that happens I want to be able to pay off his house and any remaining debt, put on a nice funeral, and make sure that my mom has a financial buffer for retirement. Any advice on bringing up the issue of mortality with my parents, and getting their consent? Also, is there anything that I should know about policies for older people?

hypothetical situation, fender bender. I was in a fender bender, I was not the Fault person, but I did not have any insurance. Does the fault person insurance have to pay me for the damages done to my car even though I didn't have insurance when it happen? the insurance company refuse to pay me for any damages done to my vehicle. If I take them to court will I win.
